Product Description
Whenever ex-colleagues, old school friends from High Storrs and Centralians gather the conversation soon turns to the inevitable memories of life at High Storrs School. This is also true for any school in the country. For the pre-war
generation there will be stories of forbidden contact with school friends of the opposite sex, arranging meetings after school far enough away from the disapproving eyes of the school staff. They will recall the school moving from Leopold Street to High Storrs Road and the challenges this presented to pupils trying to get to school. In the post-war years there will be recollections of flying blackboard rubbers and chalk, terrifying disciplinarians and teachers who shaped lives and inspired careers. In the seventies the memories will recall the change to the comprehensive system and the academic and sporting prowess of individuals and teams. In the new century discussion will turn to school trips, artistic performances, the condition of the buildings, the refurbishment and the fantastic new facilities now available for pupils at the school.
This book unites all those memories and will provoke even more about life at High Storrs School. ‘Those were the Days’ ‘Can you remember the time when...?’ ‘What was the name of that teacher who taught...?’
High Storrs School has come through a major building programme and creditably it has continued to improve. This is a testament to staff, parents and students. We now have a magnificent building which matches the rich and varied talent of our students whilst reflecting the important history of the school. A 1930s building has been made fit for the 21st century and we can feel proud to be a part of its future.
I hope you enjoy this photographic journey through some of our history.
