Product Description

In early 1936 George Orwell spent two months in northern England researching the lives of working class people living in the
depressed industrial towns and cities of Lancashire and Yorkshire. From this research he wrote The Road To Wigan Pier.
After spending a month in Lancashire Orwell caught a train from Wigan to Yorkshire where he spent three days in Sheffield, a week in Leeds and two weeks in Barnsley. He included in the book his experiences of the people, homes, rivers, factories, mines, canals, and mills of Sheffield and Barnsley. This is the story of his stay there.
